Limitless Space and Bliss with Lama Ole Nydahl

Website-Banner-620-340 2014

We are delighted to announce that Lama Ole Nydahl will be visiting Hong Kong from 28 February to 2 March to give teachings on The Great Seal (Skt. Mahamudra / Tib. Chag Chen) teachings.

The Great Seal is the crown jewel of the Buddha’s teachings and was taught by him to fully awaken mind’s potential and to seal its enlightened nature, an experience of limitless space and bliss. When one rests in the totality of the seer, what is seen and the act of seeing at all times, the goal, Mahamudra, is reached.  Continue reading Limitless Space and Bliss with Lama Ole Nydahl

Archaeological Discoveries Confirm Early Date of Buddha’s Life

Nov. 25, 2013 — Archaeologists working in Nepal have uncovered evidence of a structure at the birthplace of the Buddha dating to the sixth century B.C. This is the first archaeological material linking the life of the Buddha — and thus the first flowering of Buddhism — to a specific century.

Three Talks with Two Teachers!

WEB_banner_GandF_Aug_2013

We are happy to announce Guido and Florinda Czeija will be visiting Hong Kong for the first time later this month. The program will include three talks over Saturday 24, Sunday 25, and Monday 26 August.

The History of the Karma Kagyu School – Saturday 24 August, 7pm

In this talk, Guido and Florinda will explain the rich history of the Karma Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, one of the major Buddhist schools of Tibet. As a lineage of direct oral transmission, it especially treasures meditation and can, through interaction with a qualified teacher, bring about the full direct experience of the nature of the mind. The Karma Kagyu methods were taught by the historical Buddha Shakyamuni to his closest students. They were later passed on through the Indian Mahasiddhas: Padmasambhava, Tilopa, Naropa and Maitripa and the famous Tibetan Yogis Marpa and Milarepa. In the 12th century, the monk Gampopa gave the teachings to the first Gyalwa Karmapa whose successive incarnations – which started the very first lineage of consciously reborn Buddhist teachers – have kept them powerful and vibrant over the centuries.

Love and Partnership – Sunday 25 August, 2pm

The Buddhist approach to love and partnership can help us to relax our minds, break bad habits, and use relationships to grow ourselves and benefit everyone around us. Rather than competing with our partners, the Buddha advises us to support each other and stand side by side. This talk will discuss patterns of behaviour that can come up in our relationships and will include concrete advise on how we can use our closest connections as important steps on our way to reach enlightenment. This is the first time in Hong Kong we will hear teachings on this topic from a married couple.

How Real is Reality: a Buddhist perspective on modern science – Monday 26 August, 7pm

Reality as we see it, is always influenced by what we think about reality. Everything we perceive is coloured by our culture, upbringing, experience, education and a lot more. However, what is behind our experiences and who or what is perceiving things? In this talk, Guido and Florinda will explain ultimate reality: the truth beyond all personal matters, and how this truth can be realized through Buddhist methods.

About the speakers

Guido and Florinda Czeija have been teaching Buddhism since 2006, having being asked to do so by their teacher Lama Ole Nydahl. Florinda has been practising Buddhism since 1997 and founded the Innsbruck Buddhist Centre in 2002. She works as a physiotherapist and founded the School for Visceral Therapy and Integrative Manual Treatment Methods. Her husband Guido has been practising Buddhism since 1995 and studied physics and mathematics at the Universities of Vienna and Berlin, specialising in the foundations of quantum physics. He works as a freelance coach and consultant for teams and organizations throughout Europe.

Karma: Cause and Effect

Website-Banner-Angelika-620-400

We are very happy to welcome Angelika Tesch to give a talk in Hong Kong. Angelika will give a talk about Karma: Cause and Effect. Angelika is a lay Buddhist teacher and also a close student of Lama Ole Nydahl. She was born in Vienna, Austria and took Buddhist Refuge with Lama Ole in in the same city in 1984.

Normally everybody is taking refuge in something. Some in a Mercedes, others in their families, in being rich, smart, young, etc. But if we look for something lasting, something beyond coming and going, then what can we rely on? The Buddha explained that mind itself is the only source of lasting happiness and the teachings about Buddhist Refuge align us with this. Starting with an understanding of our goal (the Buddha), the teachings which bring us there (the Dharma), and the friends who help us on the way (the Sangha), this talk will explore these teachings and also explain the role of the teacher (the Lama) who is necessary to practice Diamond Way Buddhism.

The talk will start at 7.30pm and will also include a guided meditation for those who are interested in finding out more about meditation. As the talk will take place on our regular meditation evening, we will not charge an admission fee but would be grateful to receive donations to help us to cover travel costs. Our usual event price is HK$100 / HK$50 (for concessions).

Working with Disturbing Emotions

We’re very happy to announce that Tomek Lehnert will return to Hong Kong on Monday 25 March to give a talk on “Working with Disturbing Emotions”. Tomek will present how one can integrate Buddhist teachings and meditation into our every day lives, providing the tools we need to transform the emotional ups and downs we experience into a state of awareness and joy. As our disturbing feelings dissolve, we are able to experience the true nature of mind more and more: a state of space and bliss inseparable.

About Tomek Lehnert

Tomek was born in 1956 in Gdansk, Poland. He studied Civil Engineering at the Polytechnics of Gdansk and English literature at the University of Poznan, Poland. In the early eighties, he became active in the students’ Solidarity movement in the then communist Poland. In 1983, during martial law in Poland, Tomek met Lama Ole Nydahl, took Buddhist refuge and became his student. He began traveling with Lama Ole in 1987. Together with Ole’s wife Hannah Nydahl, he organised Lama Ole’s activity for twenty years and helped start Diamond Way Buddhist centers in the Americas, Australia and New Zealand, Russia and Western and Eastern Europe. Tomek translated for Lama Ole at his lectures in Poland and Latin America for more than ten years.

He is also the author of ‘Rogues in Robes’ (Blue Dolphin Publishing, 1998), a chronicle of the events surrounding the recognition of HH the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, head of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Please join us to hear Tomek’s inspiring teachings full of humour and tales of his times travelling on the road with Lama Ole (including being kidnapped at gun-point in Columbia by FARC guerrillas!).

More information

The talk will be held on Monday 25 March at 8pm, and the venue will be the Diamond Way Buddhist Centre in Sheung Wan (address below).

As the talk will take place on our regular meditation evening, we will not charge an admission fee but would be grateful to receive donations to help us to cover Tomek’s travel costs. Our usual event price is HK$100 / HK$50 (for concessions).

We welcome everyone to attend the course and very much look forward to seeing you there!

February News: Lama Ole Nydahl in Hong Kong

website_banner_Ole_Mar_2013

Dear friends,

Following the wonderful start to 2013 with H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa, the new Year of the Water Snake starts in auspicious style with a Meditation Course with Lama Ole Nydahl next month.

Lama Ole Nydahl in Hong Kong

Our main teacher, Lama Ole Nydahl, will be visiting Hong Kong from 1-3 March 2013 and will host a Meditation Course. This 3 day, intensive course will begin with an introductory talk about Buddhist meditation on Friday evening and will continue with four sessions over the weekend, exploring this central Buddhist topic more deeply.

In Buddhism, meditation means “effortlessly remaining in what is.” This state may be brought about by calming and holding the mind, by realizing compassion and wisdom, or by working with the body’s energy channels and meditating on Buddha forms of light and energy. The most effective methods are the constant identification with one’s own potential to be a Buddha and experiencing the richness of every situation in life; both of which are taught in Diamond Way Buddhism. When one understands that the seer, what is seen, and the act of seeing are not separate from each other; the goal has been reached.

About Lama Ole Nydahl

Lama Ole Nydahl is one of the few Westerners fully qualified as a lama and meditation teacher in the Karma Kagyu Buddhist tradition. In 1969, Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah became the first Western students of H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. After completing three years of Buddhist philosophy studies and intensive meditation training – including the transmission for a unique Diamond Way Buddhist practice called Conscious Dying (tib. Phowa) – Ole Nydahl began teaching Buddhism in Europe at the request of the 16th Karmapa. Lama Ole has since transmitted the blessing of the lineage in a different city nearly every day, traveling and teaching worldwide. His depth of knowledge and dynamic teachings inspire thousands of people at his lectures and meditation retreats.

Challenging people’s concepts of life and Buddhism in an unorthodox manner, Lama Ole has been a major driving force in bringing Buddhism to the West, and to date his unique inspiration has led to the establishment of more than 600 Diamond Way Buddhist centers in 44 countries around the world. His original synthesis of modern style and ancient wisdom have helped create the largest body of students practicing Diamond Way Buddhist methods in the West.

January News

Dear friends,

We have the best possible start to the New Year as H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa will be visiting Hong Kong in two weeks time! We’re also happy to announce that Eckart Dross will be with us again for some talks later in the month too. Finally, the schedule for Lama Ole Nydahl’s trip in March is now confirmed – see below for all the details!

H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa in Hong Kong

We are very excited to announce that the 17th Karmapa, Trinley Thaye Dorje, will be visiting Hong Kong in January 2013. There are events over a 10 day period, starting on 18 January and ending on 27 January. As the head of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, Gyalwa Karmapa is simply the most important teacher we have. It is a very precious opportunity to meet Gyalwa Karmapa, especially as he normally comes to Hong Kong only every other year, and so we would very much recommend everyone who is able to attend these events to come along. The highlight of the course are the three empowerments or initiations which take place over the first weekend (18-20 January).

About the teacher

His Holiness Karmapa is the head of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Born in 1983 in central Tibet, he began telling his parents, the great Nyingma lama Mipham Rinpoche and Dechen Wangmo, that he was the Karmapa almost as soon as he could speak. Traditionally, the Karmapas are said to recognise themselves in each incarnation. Following the tradition of many centuries, the child was tested and formally recognised by the highest lama in the Karma Kagyu after the lineage head himself, the 14th Shamar Rinpoche, and given the name Trinley Thaye Dorje, meaning Limitless Unchanging Buddha Activity. For more information about Karmapa, please visit his website.

Schedule and Information

The events with Gyalwa Karmapa are organised by our ‘sister’ centre in Hong Kong, the New Horizon Buddhist Association who can be contacted directly via their website: www.kagyunews.com.hk. Please refer to this link for more information.

Talks with Eckart Dross

We are delighted to welcome Eckart back to Hong Kong to give two talks later this month. Starting with a talk on Buddhist Refuge, he will also explain the rich history of the Karma Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, and in particular the lineage of the Karmapas – the first lineage of consciously reborn teachers.

Eckart Dross became Buddhist in 1998 and founded the Diamond Way Centre in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has been instrumental in setting up other centres and retreat places throughout South America. He has been travelling and teaching Buddhism internationally since 2005, giving lectures and courses on Buddhism at Lama Ole Nydahl’s request, throughout South America, Europe, Australia and Asia.
